AMVIV7 Pre-registrations have now closed

Autocross at AMVIV7

The local chapter of SCCA, LVRSCCA is holding an autocross event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on the Saturday of AMVIV weekend. Details are here.

Helmets are available to rent for $5, and the Las Vegas SCCA chapter has a coupon for $25 off for first time autocrossers! You won't find a better deal than that! The coupon link now works!

You can pre-register here.  You don't have to pre-pay, but pre-registering will speed up the check-in process on the day.

They have created a flyer, have a look and see all the details.

The shirt, hat and grille badge designs

The design contest was won by COOPERation who entered some amazing artwork, as did all our entrants in the AMVIV7 design contest. You can see the winning designs (which will be the event shirt, hat and grille badge art) here.

Hotel group rate is now open SOLD OUT

Sorry, but Aliante is a smaller hotel than we've had in the past, and the hotel is now completely booked up and yes, as of 1/7/2010, the entire Aliante Station Hotel is booked by AMVIV attendees! If people can't make it for some reason and cancel their reservation, the rate should show up as available, so it might be worth checking it every so often.

Fortunately, there are other hotels in Las Vegas with rooms still available. Here are a few:

We have signed a hotel contract! We’re moving away from Palace Station this year, to another property in the Station Casinos family. We’re going to Aliante Station which is a brand new, absolutely beautiful hotel casino. The hotel part is a bit smaller than Palace, and we will have the entire hotel blocked out for our attendees. Yes, if you see someone in the hotel elevator, they will be another AMVIV attendee.

Rooms are $99 per night plus taxes for each night of the event which is a good deal for a new resort-style property in Las Vegas. The hotel only has 200 rooms, so book early if you for sure want to stay at the "home hotel".

Use this link to book your room or call 1-877-477-SOAR (7627) and use group code S03MINI.

Prior AMVIV videos for your enjoyment

The Sin City MINI Club's own Ladd has put together a video showing some of the fun from prior AMVIVs. Have a look here. It includes still images from various people, plus video from the plane that followed several runs last year and the Strip overpass during the Strip Cruise.

Rob Saunders posted back in April '07 a great video of his experiences at AMVIV4. Have a look here. You might see yourself in it if you were here.

I also have finally done my writeup of AMVIV5. Have a look.

MotorTrend covered AMVIV4

Many thanks go out to our good friend Melissa aka WickedGolf who is a MotorTrend writer and convinced her bosses to cover AMVIV for the 2nd time.

Melissa's coverage of AMVIV3 is still accessible here.

HISTORY

In September of 2003, Dominic Tuso and Andrew Ross started talking about organizing a group drive for about 10 to 20 of the Arizona MINI Owners to visit Las Vegas for a weekend of fun and relaxation. By the time the drive happened in February of 2004, it had snowballed to a national event with MINIs and Minis coming from all over the US, as well as attention from other countries, and somewhere over 200 cars attending (we never did get an accurate count).

That was A MINI Vacation In Vegas. The original. It was such a success and so much fun, that there was an immediate call to start planning a sequel event. After some intense volunteering, it was decided that the Sin City MINI Club would co-ordinate the 2005 event, A MINI Vacation In Vegas II (aka AMVIV2). AMVIV2 happened in early March of 2005 and was bigger and better than the original, so we started planning AMVIV3 a couple of months after it ended.

To try to get some better weather and to ensure that a track day could occur, AMVIV3 moved to the end of March, 2006. The end result was over 300 cars and a fantastic event that was a huge hit in the MINI community.

AMVIV4 was March 22 - 25th, 2007 and built on the previous success. The final count was just under 500 MINIs and Minis, and the event has become known as one of the biggest and funnest MINI events in the world.

In 2008, AMVIV5 ran from March 27 - 30th (the weekend of the last Sunday in March, as usual) and attracted 572 MINIs and Minis.

March 26 - 29th, 2009 was AMVIV 6. Due to the mess going on in the economy, attendance was down a little from 2008, but pretty close to the turnout for 2008 at 478 MINIs and Minis with 230 on the Strip Cruise.

AMVIV Lucky Number 7 will run from March 25th to 28th, 2010 and we're expecting it to be THE MINI event of the year once again. See you here!
